Woodhaven is the newest suburb in the southern Durban districts of Montclair, Yellowwood Park, and Woodlands. Developed in the early 1970s by the mining group Goldfields of South Africa, Woodhaven was built on land purchased from the Durban City Council with plans to construct and sell approximately 575 housing units. As one of the pioneers of higher density development in South Africa, Woodhaven set the stage and guidelines for many similar projects.
