Montclair, Durban
Montclair, a suburb located in the southern part of Durban, is approximately a 10-minute drive from the CBD. Originally part of the Wood farm, Montclair has evolved into a well-connected neighbourhood, easily accessible via both the N2 and M4 highways through the Higginson Highway to the south or the Clairwood interchange to the north. Blamey and Benson Roads form its northern border, while Kenyon Howden Road separates it from Woodlands to the south. The two suburbs, Montclair and Woodlands, have a symbiotic relationship, with residents often commuting between the two for various needs.
Montclair is predominantly home to government employees, including clerks, teachers, prosecutors, police officers, and nurses. Additionally, many residents work in Durban's private sector or in the industrial areas of Prospecton and Jacobs.
The suburb offers a range of recreational facilities, including an upgraded public swimming pool, sports parks, and several sports clubs. Shopping is convenient with a Pick n Pay shopping centre, and several smaller corner cafes, as well as a variety of take aways in the area that are new. Essential services include a police station, a variety of doctors, Montclair Pharmacy and a post office.
Education in Montclair is well-supported, with Montclair Primary School catering to junior to senior primary students. Mowat Park Girls' High School offers a holistic education for girls, and Tatum Keshwar, the winner of Miss South Africa 2008, is an alumna.
