1. Is this agent (and agency) registered with a Fidelity Fund Certificate?
This is your first non-negotiable. A valid Fidelity Fund Certificate (FFC) isn't just a piece of paper-it's proof that the agent is legally allowed to operate in South Africa. It also gives you protection as a consumer. If an agent can't produce their FFC, keep looking.
2. Does this brand have a reputation for reliability and trustworthiness?
You're not just hiring an agent-you're aligning yourself with their brand. Does the agency have a longstanding reputation for ethics, transparency, and results? Look for brands that are known in the community, with solid track records and good word-of-mouth.
3. Is this agent knowledgeable and well-trained?
Property is ever-changing, and your agent needs to stay ahead of the curve. Ask about their training, local market knowledge, and how they keep up with industry trends. A well-informed agent won't just list your home, they'll strategise the sale.
4. Does this agent understand what motivates my sale?
Every home has a story, and so does every sale. Whether you're downsizing, relocating, or selling due to a change in circumstances, your agent should take the time to understand what's driving your decision. That insight helps them tailor the marketing and approach to suit your goals
5. Will this agent look after my best interests?
You want an agent who's not just chasing a commission but truly working for you. Are they honest about the market? Do they give you sound advice even if it's not what you want to hear? Will they keep you updated and make the process less stressful? These things matter.
