Ever thought you could sell property?

Employment on a plate in South Africa is yesterday’s news. We need to think differently, act differently, and recognise that employment begins with us.  Ever thought you could have the ingredients needed to be a great estate agent? Read on…surprise yourself.

Write your own cheque. Sounds good, doesn’t it? That’s what a sales person does. And if you, even if spite of your own perception of your abilities or inabilities, find that you really are a good salesperson and you love it, you’ll be writing out really great cheques.

You’re unemployed, or you haven’t worked for a few years while raising children; perhaps, you’re a university graduate and there are no openings for you, or you’re unhappy in the corporate world. There can be so many reasons why a 360 degree change is called for…and there are numerous highly persuasive reasons why, if you have a reliable vehicle, becoming an estate agent could work for you.

Firstly, it’s like owning your own business, being your own boss. As Gary Player famously said, “The harder I work, the luckier I get,” and that pertains to property as much as any other industry. You work for yourself, you make your own decisions, and you manage your time and energy well, just as you would in your own business. If you’ve wisely chosen to work under the banner of a reputable brand, you have the substantial backup - seen and unseen - of a well-oiled infrastructure, administrative support, a reputation for excellence, and a team and network of people who’ve literally decades of experience to share with you. You succeed, they succeed, so it’s a business model which works for all parties.

In addition, when you select the right estate agency brand, you’ll receive extensive, ongoing training. Whether it’s about signing up a sales agreement, sales protocols or new property or tax laws, you’ll be in the know immediately.

Choosing to be an estate agent is choosing a lifestyle and a career, not simply a job. To be a winning estate agent, you’re likely to be a person who enjoys people, who networks naturally through golf or bridge or the school gala, whatever else you enjoy in your leisure time. The more people you know or meet, the better your network. So, when you’re at play, you’re also at work.

And you need to like property. Really enjoy the idea of finding people a home which they love; or assisting them to sell a home when they need to make a change. There’s great satisfaction in establishing these relationships, in making people happy.

At Wakefields, we have many agents who’ve spent their entire careers with us. Wouldn’t consider going elsewhere, they’re part of the family. They’ve been successful – many of them, consistently and extraordinarily so – they’ve sold the same home over and over again, and have dealt with the same clients time and time again. They are property professionals who love the industry, never stop learning, and couldn’t conceive of not working for Wakefields and themselves.

Think about it. Wakefields has a professional training programme, numerous opportunities throughout Kwa-Zulu Natal for estate agents (in all likelihood, near where you live), and you’d be welcome to be part of the team, yet essentially, run your own business. We offer you the best of both worlds.
