MOUNT EDGECOMBE COUNTRY CLUB

Decades ago, there wasn't a lifestyle concept which came close to that offered at Mount Edgecombe Country Club (MECC). Residents assert there still isn't, and with Wakefields' tangible increase in interest and sales over the past 15 months, clearly everybody agrees.

Mount Edgecombe has always been the right address, but today, even more so. Wakefields sales and letting figures tell the story, one which bucks the KZN north coast trend. The team's sales figures for 2018 were, year on year, an eye-opening 85 percent higher than 2017.

The Wakefields sales team live and work at Mount Edgecombe, so they know the estate from the inside out. For them, living and loving that lifestyle, makes it easier to convey to newcomers just how much living there has countless advantages. Small wonder that all four Mount Edgecombe property consultants were up there in the Group's top 25 agents at this week's Wakefields Achiever Awards.

Looking at Mount Edgecombe's total overall sales last year, a substantial 67 were concluded. The total value of all transactions concluded on the estate last year was R414m - 12,8 percent up on the total value of sales for the previous year.

Going into 2019, 21 sales totalling R115m have already been secured for the first three months. All signs point to a more lively sales and rental market at Mount Edgecombe.

Mount Edgecombe has long been the blueprint for other estates, but today, with the final completion of the massive interchange, accessibility in, to and from the Estate is absolutely seamless. Mount Edgecombe is literally a ten minute drive to wherever you want to go. Whether it's King Shaka International Airport, the corporate, business, commercial and industrial hubs of La Lucia and  Umhlanga Ridges, Riverhorse Valley and Cornubia,  Gateway Theatre of Shopping, two private hospitals, a series of prestigious private and government schools, and the gold coast beaches of Umhlanga village...Mount Edgecombe now has direct access to all the principal attractions of the region.

Mount Edgecombe is not only about superb design, security, no construction on site, two world class golf courses, and a 15 kilometre cycle and walking track...but about location, location, location. Or, if you prefer, POSITION and accessibility.  It couldn't be more perfectly positioned.

It was over two decades ago that developers broke ground at Mount Edgecombe Country Club. MECC comprises Estate I and II, in total 1,170 property units - 280 on Estate I, and 890 on Estate II - which include freehold homes, townhouses and apartments. There really is something for everyone. Building of new homes began in 1992, alongside some of the old sugar mill homes, many of which have retained their original facades; new homes on Estate II began in 1996.  The Estate is now fully developed.

Although the lack of construction on Mount Edgecombe is a major advantage, that doesn't mean the Estate remains static. Many homes have been modernised, extended and architectural innovations have taken place, particularly as regards sustainability features such as solar panels, Jo Jo tanks and more. The Estate moves with the times.

Outstanding security is one of the prime reasons families choose Mount Edgecombe Country Club. Security upgrades are a constant, and the layers of security include a fully-enclosed estate, manned access gates, and foot and vehicle patrols around the clock.

Security contributes to a relaxed lifestyle, where walking, cycling, running, fishing, paddling and SUP are all offered on the estate. When it comes to an active life, tennis, squash, bowls, swimming pools and more complement the two prestigious golf courses.

Life at Mount Edgecombe is as solitary or as sociable as you like. The conservation friendly environment has seen impala, bushbuck and blue duiker thrive, as well as abundant birdlife, with spoonbills, fish eagles, swallows and flocks of pelicans, sometimes up to 60, at Dumat Dam.

The Watershed, the newest, lively bistro overlooking Pani Dam on Estate II, is the home of laid-back dining - with a great children's play area - and is fast becoming the go-to meeting place for the Estate's residents. The Mount Edgecombe clubhouse offers excellent social and dining facilities which are well supported by the Estates' residents.  The recent upgrade to the main clubhouse has been a great enhancement.

Talking to the on-site Wakefields property consultants, Mount Edgecombe is now front of mind for those moving north. It's so convenient, so exceptionally well run, and so established, it's a tough one with which to complete. But let  the numbers do the talking. The interest, sales and increased buoyancy of the property market on the Estate - bucking the trend - speaks volumes.
