The quaint village of Ramsgate is situated on the KwaZulu-Natal Lower South Coast. A favourite destination of generations of South Africans it has seen seasonal influxes of domestic tourists since the 1950's. It is located at the mouth of the Ibilanhlolo River, meaning "the marvellous boiler", due to the bubbles caused by strong currents. In 1922, a painter and violin maker called Paul Buck opened a trading store alongside the river, and the building still survives to this day.
