The naming of Amanzimtoti is generally attributed to the renowned Zulu King Shaka, who stopped here in 1828 with his army during one of their campaigns. Legend has it that after being given water to drink from the local river, he remarked ‘kanti amanzi mtoti’ (so the water is sweet), thereby giving the river, and the town that later developed around it, the name of Amanzimtoti.

Six hundred-odd km from Johannesburg, 60km from Durban International Airport, and conveniently situated just 25km south of central Durban, the booming holiday destination of Amanzimtoti, or Toti as it is known to locals, offers almost everything for the discerning traveler. There is a first-class infrastructure of modern shopping malls, excellent accommodation options, and restaurants, as well as a wide array of leisure activities – both on land and at sea!
